Ask Dr. Cash: If there are no symptoms, there’s no stress…right?
According to the American Psychological Association, an absence of symptoms does not mean the absence of stress. In fact, camouflaging symptoms with medication may deprive you of the signals you need for reducing the strain on your physiological and psychological systems.
If you’re being treated for chronic headaches, muscle pain, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, lack of focus, sadness, anger, or over/under eating – you could be medicating common symptoms of stress. While all the holiday parties and family gatherings are tons of fun, the planning, baking, and constantly being on your best behavior can have serious side effects. Stress can take a serious toll on your physical and mental health.
