MYTH BUSTER: I’m only one person, so I can’t make a difference.
I’ve always wished I could help out, but I’m just one person, so it’s kind of a waste of time.
The fact is, even the smallest of actions can be the start of a ripple effect, and its reach can create a positive chain of reaction that reaches far beyond your initial intention.
Goodness is catching, and it doesn’t take over-the-top deeds to trigger it. Simple acts of human kindness can be enough to open hearts and inspire others to do the same.
Seeing, or even just reading about others’ courage, compassion, or generosity can trigger cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes. Any small effort you make will not only make you feel better, but it also increases the likelihood that others will follow suit and go on to do good works of their own.
